Back in the "era" of Elvis Presley, Everly Brothers, etc. Dennis L. Davies, Lakewood, Colorado and Merlue Frasier, Benkelman, Nebraska became friends while attending Colorado State University. Their "school years" at CSU energized their interest in good horses and rodeoing. Both participated in the NIRA rodeos as well as Livestock Club. Denny was also a member of the CSU Livestock Judging Team. After graduating, Denny pursued a teaching career and married. He continued to rodeo and raise "good quarter horses", many from horses that his father owned and raced extensively under the Running Two brand.
Merlue began college at Arizona State University and was on the rodeo team competing in barrels and goat tying with accomplishments in her second year of winning the All Around for the NIRA Southwest Region. She rodeoed on the CSU rodeo team in barrels and goat tying and later continued to rodeo, barrel race, after graduating from CSU. She was among the few that was instrumental in the first National Barrel Racing Clinic on the CSU campus which was a huge success. Merlue married and moved to Arizona and later to the Kansas City area where she pursued real estate development. This then led to acquiring a real estate broker's license in farms, ranches, horse properties and corporate home sales. At one time or another, she has held licenses in Missouri, Kansas, Arizona, Nebraska, Colorado and Wyoming.
Merlue's family rodeoed from the early 40's on. She barrel raced and her father, Merle, competed in calf roping (RCA). She was a GRA member and continued barrel racing when the association became WPRA. Merlue's family bred and raised "good quarter horses", mainly for ranching under the Spear Lazy F brand. (Merlue has since purchased this brand and feels very honored to carry on the Spear Lazy F.) These bloodlines, established in the 40s, excelled in performance, racing and were known for outstanding ranch horses. Coke T. Roberds, King Ranch, Matadore Ranch are just a few of the legendary bloodlines.
In the early 90's, Denny's and Merlue's friendship was "rekindled". Denny had years of competing in calf roping, team roping and bull dogging and many championships "under his belt"...rodeoing in the Colorado State Rodeo Association and in the National Senior Professional Association. Merlue had continued in WPRA barrel races and AQHA quarter horse shows on a limited schedule, won her share, and always rode "good quarter horses.".
Denny and Merlue were married on August 16, 1998 at the Sodbuster Inn, Greeley Colorado. Their mutual goal has been "good quarter horses." that can do something-- They most always have several performance-quality "good quarter horses" for sale. Not only have Denny and Merlue Davies bred, raised and trained "good quarter horses" on the Davies Running Two Ranch, Fort Collins, Colorado, they both have a "keen eye" for a "good quarter horse" to add to their remuda.
